Memorial University College opened its doors on the old Parade grounds in St. John's to a total student body of 55 on September 15, 1925. The college was established as a memorial to the Newfoundlanders who had lost their lives on active service during the First World War; it was later rededicated to also encompass those lost in the Second World War.
Memorial, the largest university in Atlantic Canada, now offers more than 100 degree programs to a student population of 17,000.
The Gardiner Centre was formed in August 2008 by the amalgamation of the Centre for Management Development and the PJ Gardiner Institute, both of which have served Newfoundland and Labrador individuals and organizations for close to 30 years. The Gardiner Centre as a conduit through which business and management skills and knowledge are shared between the Faculty of Business and the business community.
